WCP Associates were engaged by the Wigan Boys and Girls Club Charity to provide Project Management, Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveying services on the construction of the new Wigan Youth Zone on Parsons Walk in the centre of Wigan.
This involved the cost management of a project that was tendered with three other Youth Zones as part of an OJEU-regulated tender process. The work carried out by WCP Associates ensured that the client achieved their budget aspirations and that the project started on site without the need to re-tender to confirm prices.
The project completed in March 2013 and was officially opened by the Prime Minister in September 2013.
When on site, the project faced construction challenges such as the need to provide a sustainable drainage solution through the use of a surface water soakaway system, the integration of hand-made materials into a large-scale construction project and the interface of the construction of the University Technical College adjacent to the site. WCP Associates provided management services throughout the project to ensure that all stakeholder interests and statutory responsibilities were maintained and protected.
The successful management of the Wigan Youth Zone project has lead to repeat business from the project sponsors on a wide range of development opportunities.
The Youth Zone is the largest centre of its type in the country.
WCP Associates managed the full build process from tender to completion and into the Defects Liability Period.
